I switched from DB Press to Military Press maybe 6 weeks ago. At first I had 95lbs on there and now I'm up to 135 for 9 reps on my first set. I should mention that I can only reach 6 reps on successive sets. But I've been doing them in front of my face bringing the bar to a few inches above my collar bone. Is this correct? What's the deal with doing it behind your head??

Since working my shoulders this afternoon though, I notice some pain in my right shoulder. I think I am gonna switch back to DB press for the time being as I don't wanna fuck up my rotator cup.

never do behind the neck, thats really bad for your rotator cuff, i usually bring the bar down to chin level...

I touch my collar bone/chest as well. I can only do 105 x 5 though :( This is seated, standing I can do a little more.

I do behind the neck presses but only lower it to my ears. Also need a spotter just to unrack it. Whenever I do it to the front I think I start arching my back too much.
Maybe its the range of motion, but I can do significantly more on press behind neck than to the front.

Have fun tearing your shit. Range of motion is worse behind the neck.

Yup, that's how I do them...Bring the weight down just above the collarbone and explode up on the lift and I try not to lock out anymore since I've somehow developed freaking 'tennis elbow' in my right arm now. :hs:

Um...I said that was probably why I could do more weight.

I use the smith machine and use 3 plates a side regulary, if the gym im at has the right free weight rack I use up to 275 barbell. 6-8 usually. I bring it down to chin level as well.

i do them very slowly, with perfect form and very little weight.

i've had shoulder problems in the past, i'm not fucking up again. i'll usually do 50lbs for 4 sets of 8.
