Basically, we're taught to throw a hook with the palm of your fist facing you. I have a friend who went to another Dojo for a few years who was taught to throw a hook with the palm of your fist facing the ground.

Btw, I still can't throw a proper hook. My hips/legs/90 degree hook isn't syncronized properly.

Palm facing me. I used to try with the palm down, but it bothers my wrist like that for some reason.

palm down puts your ring and pinky finger at the contact points. Boxers fractures out the ass will happen.

I don't know, if I throw a tight hook its always with my palm facing me, anytime i throw a hook that is further outside i throw it palm down and don't run into any contact with ring or pinky finger.

Sounds more like a looping hook vs. Tight hook thing. I can see how it would be like you said with a big looping hook.

The thing is a lot of boxers do it palms down because they have boxing gloves and they can get away with that shit but those mother fuckers get a lot of those fractures right at their pinky bone and ring finger where it connects inside the hand. I used to throw it that way till I got a fracture then some one showed me the other way and I never looked back.

There are multiple ways to do things I usually call the right way the one where your less likely to cause injury or the one that gets you more speed or power. I do it palms facing my face because theres less of a chance for injury

you can get away with it on close hooks or rips because most of the time you are only 3/4 of the normal range and you are hitting more with the inside of your hand.

How the hell do you do a hook with palm facing down and get power? Your muscles are completely twisted and misaligned and there's no solid power at all in that.

Palm facing in = more power.

Without a doubt, palm facing me. I've naturally always done it that way, even before I was getting trained. If someone tried to teach me otherwise, I wouldn't watch anymore of his videos.

Don't go to a dojo to learn how to throw a proper punch.

    Go to a boxing gym.

Towards body when in close. When further out it naturally rotates a bit towards the floor.

its not always about power. palm down you can get a better reach and throw it quicker and it looks a lot like a jab, so the odds of you slipping it through and catching them go up a bit. I like to faint a jab and throw one of those, works well to start off a combo.

that all depends on the boxing gym because some of these gyms have changed the punches a bit to get more of an advantage in boxing but would fuck you up with mma. Like the mexican gyms mexican guys have different range then other boxers because they twist their hips more and get a longe reach so their jabs are long range as fuck but if you try that in mma you will get kicked because your in kicking range or taken down

I highly doubt you threw a proper hook when you first tried. Especially when you are still learning about distance in your beginning spars and timing which usually lead to wide sweeping hooks. I mean there are a lot of things to get right, right off the bat, but a proper hook is bloody unlikely.
