I was just wondering how you military folks deal with the loss of a fellow soldier while on the battlefield? What do they tell you to do?

In all honesty I never thought much about it until the mission we were on was over. After we completed it is when it sunk in but even at that we never had much time to sit and think about it. It never really bothered me too much until I came home.

Most people have a hard time being open about it.

The military mental health system needs A TON of help.

I can't even imagine how it is in combat, but I remember the stories my brother would tell about being over there.. *sigh* :(

Do they ever make you guys seek therapy when you come back to the States?

I have been shocked by how easily people in the Aviation community talk about their co-workers and friends that have died. I'm not sure if it's the frequency that has made them numb, or if they have just accepted the fact that it is going to happen. Either way, I get an uneasy feeling whenever the "story" sessions begin. Still don't understand what Aviators love talking about crashes.

When my brother came back from Afghanistan and Iraq they briefed everyone when they came back, dunno if every unit does this, but it seemed to help him and his buddies alot.

Appreciate where your coming from man but I can't agree and personally I think if you continue feeling that way you should probably seek some help once you come back.

And no I'm not full of shit but thanks. :hs:
