So today was the second time i've done face pulls, and i'm not sure if i'm getting it right. i'm doing these on a cable machine with a rope attachment while standing. i notice that i lean back when i do these, and i'm not sure if that's correct form. i only lean back because the weight i'm using is heavy enough where i can't just stand straight and pull it. should i be standing straight and use less weight? doesn't seem to productive when i do use less weight.

i also use a a grip where my thumbs are outwards, so that when i'm pulling, my arms are parallel to the ground the whole time. i've seen clips where the thumbs are inwards, so that the arms become perpendicular to the ground as you pull, but it seems that works out bis more.

    any tips? thanks!

you'll lean back a bit, thumbs in, pull the weight DIRECTLY to your face, no matter the angle, elbows should be ~parallel to the ground, and pull the rope APART as its coming to your face (will flex your upper back, the part its supposed to be working), head up while doing them.

go heavy, struggle... but make sure you're getting atleast 6 or 8 reps (i do 10-15)... this is not a 3-5 rep movement.

There is no requirement to standing up with doing face pulls :hsugh:

You can do them either way.

I do them standing, and I lean back. I try to keep my elbows high, and think about touching the center of the rope attachment to the top of my forehead.

I typically do these for pretty high reps, 10 is the lowest, I'm usually around 15 to 20.

If you use body english, I don't think it matters, just get work done.

also thumbs out and arms perpendicular to the ground is a good way to train the muscles that rotate the scapula upwards

even though he is "the real thomas" he is partial right.. standing and sitting works, I would say do them however they hit the muscles you want them to hit.
