Everyone has a different way and every shop has different recommendations. All say don't pick at it and wash it twice a day. But some say use hand lotion, A&D ointment, or something to keep it moist all the time. Others say don't put anything on it.

How do YOU take care of your new tattoos?

It's probably mostly due to my artist being awesome (since i've never had healing complications), but I just buy some Curel unscented lotion from the local drugstore, put that on whenever the tat feels dry, and when in the shower wash the area with Dove white soap.

    Heals up in a week

    Never a problem :dunno:

keep bandage for 2 hours and then dont rebandage. 2 days of ointment every so often when its dry and then after that just lotion until its healed.

A&D ointment? Or should I just use hand lotion?

With my first tattoo I used A&D everytime it was dry until it was healed. It came out fine. :dunno:

Bandage for 2-4 hours, wash gently, lotion when it feels itchy, don't scratch. That's about it.

my first 6 i kept covered for 2 days and kept A&D on them. i washed them 4x daily with Dial and put A&D on after each washing. after a week i put lotion on when they were dry - that white weird stuff they get?

this last one i followed different aftercare and ended up with staph :noes:
(although i'm not sure it was the aftercare or just a really unfortunate series of events that included my tat :wtc: )

I wash mine in the shower, using dial soap. I apply a THIN THIN layer of A&D for a week, then lotion whenever dry after that.

Bacitracin ointment covered by a film/plastic wrap for the first 48 hours then a non scented perfume and dye free lotion, like Curel for the duration of healing.

What ended up working best for me after the bandage removal, cleaning was Aquaphor the first few day and then I switched to fragrance free Curel for the remainder.

Some times I get wrapped, osmetimes I dont.. I only live a few miles away from the shop. I like to soak my wound in the hottest water I can stand for a few minutes.. after I wash it with antibacterial soap(I wash it a couple times a day until it starts to heal, when I start using lotion) I apply aquaphor for 2-3days... or until I notice it pealing then I switch to lotion for the remainder of the time.

I've always been advised not to take baths but rather take showers as to not have the fresh ink soaking in water like that. Im curious to know why you choose to soak it "the hottest water you can stand"? This is good for piercings when trying to pull lymph secretions to the top of the skin, but for a tattoo I can't think of a good reason.

i keep it wrapped with some wrap for the first hour.. then shower when i get home and gently rinse it with dial.. for the first two days or so i use a thin THIN layer of bacitrin on it when its dry.. after that just curel unscented. usually is fully healed within 2 weeks.

I leave the saran wrap on for a few hours then wash with antibacterial soap and pat dry with paper towel. Everyday, twice a day wash the same way until healed. After about 3 days I start to put on Lubriderm unscented lotion whenever I want and I'm healed in a week.

wash it when i get home with liquid dove moisturizing soap using only my hand then immediately after i apply curel ultra healing lotion. it burns like fire for a minute or two for the first couple days when i apply the lotion but by day 4 it feels just fine.

i wash every chance i get with anti-bacterial soap and lotion as much as possible... i have a fairly busy work day so this usually varies.

dry climates need more attention than humid ones from my experience.

Bandage on for 2 hours, then have a really hot shower and pat tattoo dry. Use nappy rash lotion in the morning and night an try avoid getting it too wet in the shower.
