are you starting with the barbell on the ground, clean it, and then press? or are you starting in a standing position (like doing bb shrugs), cleaning it and then pressing?

does it really matter? fyi, this exercise will be on a shoulder day...

well... a clean starts from the floor. a hang clean starts from a standing (athletic is a better word here) position.

I just yank it straight from the ground. Then again my clean is a lot stronger then my strict press so its never an issue getting it up.

:werd: I don't have a very good clean but I can definitely do more than I could strict press

i like doing these from the hanging position because it never lets my traps unload the weight.

really really fun movement. by far my favorite.. i always get in on these threads :o

I do hang cleans at my gym everyone around me freaks out thinking I am going to drop the weight. It's like they've never seen it before. I have people running over as if I need help.

I never understood the point of cleaning and then pressing. It's no longer a competitive movement and the press just doesn't seem to jive with the clean. You can generally clean so much more weight than you can press, so you don't stress yourself on the first part of the movement.

Clean & jerks are much more fun :bigthumb:

I would do clean and jerks, but my commercialized gym is too damn crowded. Try clean and jerking with people standing within 2 feet of you. One wrong move and you could take someones head off while going up with the BB. Even when I do a hang clean people move away from me like I just shit my pants. :hsd:

Did you lose a lot of size/strength?

I could have sworn you were stronger than this when I was more active in OTFN a year ago.

Except that the trainers somehow manage to incorporate either one of those or a stability board into every single exercise. Why is a 60 year-old woman trying to do pushups on stability boards??

Is it helpful to do the two exercises together though? It seems like an athletic move paired with a mass/strength-building move. Minus well front squat and deadlift too?

I prefer to do a power cleam from the floor, catch, and push press. Sometimes I use a split jerk or hang clean though.
