just seem to figure out where things are happening? Like at my college people go to foam parties their first weekend, but as a graduate student I have no idea where these things happen and I never have. I'm not bitter, just curious.

    Thanks

Some things like that are word of mouth. I guess it just depends on what type of people you hang out with.

I learned quickly that my social life plummeted day one of grad school. I know that isn't relevant at all to what you're asking though. In undergrad I always knew through friends or my sorority. Pretty much in grad school I've found out through my classmates what is going on where. I can't say I've had much desire to go to undergrad parties at the school I am at now, so I pretty much stick to the bar with classmates, and any parties we may be having. Talk to your classmates, they'll know what's up.

Word of mouth through friends and facebook.

I am still undergrad, but I have heard from many people that grad students tend to have their social life decrease. Unless of course you're one of those creepy, douche-bag grad students that is like 24/25 but hangs out and party's with 20/21 y/o undergrads :squint:

Heh, don't want that. Its weird, despite working as a bouncer at a very social bar as an undergrad and being good looking, I was never a partier. Guess thats why I ended up in grad school studying finance .

I'm not jealous, and my life has turned out well. I'm just curious.

Did you ever live in a dorm before? That's the way I found out about basically everything that was going on. Then soph. year I moved out of the dorms into my own place, and
    1) Friends in the dorm kept me informed of what was happening around campus/parties off campus
    2) I would have parties and I would rely on friends in the dorm to ask people to come to my house

I have no complaints as it worked very well for me.

Social circle only gets you so far though, if you are friends with people who aren't party people etc you still won't know about that type of stuff.

It's about being friends with the right people I guess :dunno:

You apparently read internet text as an attack at all times, you need to calm down....He answered my first statement with a completely arbitrary answer that made no sense to the comment. So I asked him again, because he seemed to be saying he's done just fine with no friends. I was trying to find out if he does have friends, as were a few other posters.

Yes I do have friends, but they tend to be like me: quiet and studious.
