how do i use syslog?

    when i boot mandriva with a gui (im using kde) it freezes as soon as the gui loads or very soon after. im trying to check the syslog by loading the os without the gui but i dont know how to do that at all : x can anyone help me out?

    When the GUI freezes, can you do Ctrl+Alt+F1 to get to a terminal?

    if you get a boot prompt before the gui loads just type:

    linux 3

    to get to a command prompt (runlevel 3)

    if you want to see the boot messages type

    dmesg
