...and from what i understand, the unlimited mediaworks thing doesn't apply for connecting through your phone from another device.

WAP.CINGULAR.COM log in worked for me, but ISP.CINGULAR.COM did not.

i can't seem to find the init string settings anywhere, but it's working, so i guess it doesn't matter too much.

skip bluetooth pairing and setup, buy data cable.

optional to use connection manager from cingular.com/connectionmanager
you can just do it like the setup i explained

Trust me, they know. Why do you think media works is going down to only 3mb for the same 19.99/month on feb 11th or whenever the new plans roll out.

They're very aware that people are tethering ;)

some people don't need the init. string, which is odd. ISP is just the compressed version of the WAP account. usually a little quicker. I'm pretty sure thats what the GC83 pc cards use. Works for some, not for others. I think it has to do with provisioning of the account, but i'm not certain :)

if you've got the media works package now, then yes you'll be grandfathered in and be able to keep it. :wiggle:

:wiggle: i wish i could just pay $10 for it and drop the 1500 text messages though

but $20 for unlimited net and 1500 txts is cool

I'd say thats probably true. I do know there is one guy on howardforums though that has a $600 data bill :eek4:
he was tethering, but i'm not sure of the details or the outcome. Just know you do run a risk. Might want to sign up for cingulars online account manager or call 611 frequently to check your direct bill status just in case. I'd flip if my data usage was $600 :hs:

unrelated, but I've had a customer that had a $3000 data bill. No data plan plus $.03/kb can get expensive when you use 99 megs.
