I'd like to at least know which of the 2 would suit me better.

    Thanks in advance.

The 697 would probably be fine.

I honestly can't see any large differences between the two (although I certainly could have missed something).

Im not sure if both will let you configure the extra two channels to run a second room setup or not though.

I think only the 897 has the multiroom capability. :)

I'll probably go with the 897 because I get 40% off on it as opposed to the 697 where I get only 30% off :)

04, Just as an update to what we were talking about last week... After listening to several different speakers and brands, I've decided to go with all Sony simply because they sounded pretty decent and I have a friend who works at Sony Canada and I'm getting all the speakers at 50% off and the receiver at 40% off. With these discounts, my budget allowed me to get speakers for the the whole 5.1 system :wiggle:

Regular price of everything I got was $2035 and I'm getting it at $1002.50 (Canadian $$, that is.)

Well since you need multiroom capabilities, I'd go with the 897 then.

I personally dont like Sony speakers, but if you like the way they sound in comparision, thats all that matters :)

I can pick out hundreds of other speakers that sound so much better than the Sony's do, but they don't come at the incredible discount that I'm getting the Sony's at.
Marginal rate of substitution -- It's a simple matter of economics :o

jigga - what's your budget on speakers?

While I have my doubts on your sony receivers, your speaker selection takes the cake.

to be honest, even if the sony speakers were free, you are still paying for junk. Junk is junk, no matter how cheap it is.

Let us know your budge, and maybe we can refer some websites and brands for you.

amazon has a pair of audiophile-approved athena speakers on sale for about $150 a pair. List is around 250-300 I think. Athena is very popular with the a/v crowd...check into it.
