seems as though the 24-70L I just bought a few months ago is having f'n focusing problems now.

should I take it to the local camera joint to see if they agree?

    Could it be my 40D?

how do i go about sending it in for warranty repair? I have the receipt, but i'm sure i never sent in the registration card :o :o :o

Send it in the original box it came in and put that inside another box. Type up a note on what the issue is and stick that in the box too along with a copy of your reciept.

cool ... just called. sending it in to test it.

they said 7-10 day turnaround, which was impressive.

i wonder if i shouldn't send my 40D in as well. i'm going to mexico on the 19th ... i would assume i'd have it back by then? :x:

My cousin is also having problems with his 24-70L.

One time we were at the wedding, he asked me to put on the 24-70L on the body, I put the lens in and tried to turn it to snap it in place, but it won't turn. I took the lens back out and next thing I see there is small loose screw.

It is making noises when zooming in-n-out.

don't count on their timeline. They're awesome if you hand deliver it, but terrible via mail.

don't send any accessories, not even a battery etc

You send it to NJ or CA?

If you can qualify for CPS, its 2-3 day turnaround with possible loaner

it's not focusing correctly. i think mojito warned me about it, but it was working JUST fine when i got it.

not sure what happened since then, because i treat my lenses like ... well ... like something expensive. it hasn't hit the floor or got bumped or anything.

sending it to CA. If it doesn't show up in time for Mexico, i'll just bring the 17-85 IS. It's a decent lens.

We leave on the 19th, though ... i have a feeling that's pushing it.

can i just put my 40D in the box with it, and have them "inspect" it, even though the guy on the phone (canon support) didn't say anything about it?

duh. i'll go home and try out a couple other lenses on the body ... then i'll obviously know if it's the body or lens.

its hit or miss right off the bat, they usually don't just die :hs:
I really hope they introduce an updated version with IS and fix their QC issues along the way.

it should make it back :x: but I wouldn't send in the camera before a trip

    here's the timeline:

2 weeks ago i went to San Antonio. My sister has an XT, so i let her and her husband mess around with my camera. didn't bother me. i took maybe 400 pics before he was messing with it. i took another 200 or so after.

i then got home, offloaded my memory card, and didn't look at any of the pics.

last weekend, i went to atlanta for vacation, golf, and a wedding. took maybe 500 pics there.

i offloaded those last night, and 99% of the pictures i looked at weren't in sharp focus.

I then went back and went through (really quickly) the pics from San Antonio, and it SEEMS as though the pics after my bro-in-law was using it were a touch OOF, but the ones before looked fine.

    :hs:

i really hope nothing happened to it & he didn't tell me, but i guess we'll find out what canon says.

it was a great lens before, but it's not too impressive now.

that would be dumb. If you did that someone will just take the body and you will only get the lens back. There wont be any proof that you sent the body in. If you want to send the body in, just call them back and tell them you want to.
