Well the new gym has a couple platforms for olympic lifting, and it has always been something that I have been interested in doing. Should I just go for it and hope the technique comes? Or is that a good way to hurt yourself. Also should i build a decent base before I attempt it, or would it be something that could help me grow?

Get a coach to show you how to clean/power clean. Learn that and then move on from there.

How would I go about finding a coach?

you can goto the usaw website and they have a list of all of the registered clubs. call a gym up and go from there.

this is, of course, assuming you live in the US.

Alot of universities have strength coaches that are well versed in the olympic lifts. That'd be a good place to start.

my advice would be to look at this list: http://www.msbn.tv/usavision/upload...fting/pdf/usaw_club_and_college_directory.pdf

find a club near you, and contact them to get started

do not try to teach yourself the lifts - its hard enough as is with a coach, you certainly cannot learn how to do it on your own

and no matter what , start front squatting your ass off now! 5x5 front squats for as long as you can until you start training with a coach

    you'll thank me later :o
