I've got a small gut that I want to get rid of.

Is my best option just to keep doing what I'm doing and increasing the number of time I spend toning my stomach muscles or should I start running?

I work out 5 days a week for about an hour (for about 7 months), but I hardly get any cardio.

    Diet is fine.

I'm simply asking if it will go away in about 6 months if I continue to do what I'm doing or if I need to add cardio.

I'm just worried I won't see any gains if I go the cardio route.

    I'm 5'7" and about 165.

Totally agree here and worked like a charm in my expirence... I added weight lifting to increase lean mass and RMR to get to my goal quicker. Went from flab to abs in about 3 months.

You definitely want to spend time toning your stomach muscles. Tone them up real good and then you won't have a gut, because your stomach will be toned.

Thats a given, but having toned muscles doesn't do much if they have a layer of fat over them.
