do you have access to a gym and are you willing to dedicate to it?

IMO, 180lb isnt a lot at 5'10. but its either losing fat or gaining muscle (from what i heard on this forum, you cannot reduce fat and gain muscle at the same time).

if you're a n00b, you can gain muscle and lose fat at the same time. I'd say eat around 2500-3000 calories a day and see where that gets you.

now im back hitting it hard... but i've always had probs with calories etc.... I went from 145lb to 180... but id like to cut some now.

    Basic, basic rule:
    Lose weight- bodyweight x8-10 calories/lb
    Gain weight- bodyweight x12 calories/lb

If you're not keeping a food log, start now. You may be eating more or less than you think you are.

    Ditto.

I use the mirror for weight loss, not a scale or calorie counting.
I know its possible to loose fat and gain muscle at the same time, just dont expect overnight results with it. Like anything, it takes time, and is a true test of your patients and dedication to what you are doing.

BTW, there is no magic number. No one on here will be able to help without a chart of your weight, caloric intake, and macronutrient ratios for at least a week, probably two.

Track your weight. If you lose more than 2lbs a week, add calories. If you lose less than 1lb a week, subtract calories.
