LGBT How did you discover your sexuality?

Sorry if there is a thread addressing this already. I can't search and couldn't find anything relevant.

Reason I ask is because my behaviour is confusing me lately. I don't think I'm gay. I have no desires to do anything sexual with other men. But I do have a lot of female friends. In fact, I only have 2 male friends, the rest are females. And a lot of these girls are nothing more than friends and I dont intend to change that. Unless of course they make the first move.

Were you always gay/bi, or was it a gradual progression from being straight to turning gay/bi? Share your stories please.

I'm sure it's different for everybody, but I just know. It's no different from people knowing that they're straight. :hs:

I knew i was attracted to guys in the 5th grade. I knew I was gay in the 6th. I didnt admit to myself until a year ago (im a senior in college). I still havent totally accepted it.

for reference.. I have MANY male friends and BARELY any female friends... go figure huh?

I only have one truly good female friend - where as i have probably 3-4 truly good male friends.

Looking back on it I should have known in about the seventh grade, possibly sooner. I never really thought I was any different then any of my other friends. Time progressed, even had a girlfriend that I was sexually involved with (it wasnt good, I still hadnt put it together). A few more years went by, I met this guy and we quickly became friends. My best friend noticed that he was gay long before I did. I found out a few months later when he introduced me to his boyfriend.

    Then I found gay porn.

With this new discovery, I knew. It was hard for me to tell my new friend, even though he already knew. On my ninteenth birthday it was like someone turned on the light upstairs and I knew. It was at this time that I looked back at my life and wondered why I hadnt thought of it years ago.

FWIW, I work a very straight job, in a very straight atmosphere. A select few of my coworkers know. All of my friends are men, both straight and gay, with the exception being my sister in law being the only woman that I am friends with, but its not a good friend type of relationship.

Knew I was bi in the 7th grade. I'd had a crush on a female friend of mine, but I was attracted to guys too.

I think I've always been gay. When I first found porn and shit I always found myself looking at the guys instead of the girls :dunno:.

I guess its strange but I never had an issues admitting it to myself. It was more like, "OK, I like boys but I'm not supposed to like boys. How do I cover it up". So I was never really in denial, I was just trying to cover it up.

Likewise I knew at a young age... as long as I can remember girls never did a thing for me, but boys did. Same thing with porn - always focused on the guy, could care less about the female half.

To me, being gay is innate. At some level you know... it is just a matter of time, if at all, that the conscious level accepts who and what you are, and allows you to view life that way.

Friend wise - I have always been a loner. In highschool, mostly male (though only a few close ones - none gay). Now later in life my closest friends of over 20 years are 2 females and 1 male. My friends are a mix of gay/straight/lesbian, married/single etc. Just like everyone else.

From about 12yo on, I'd think: "I *could* be gay", but I figured if I was, it'd be more obvious. :hs: :dunno:

I just knew. I think I was 8 or 9 when I realized that I was looking at all the girls at play time and not the boys.

    It was a gradual progression.

It first started with my fascination for Plantains in the produce section. They're small, but when I was younger, they were SSSSSSSSO big!

Then, I graduated to bananas. Love those curves. Eventually, I moved on to oversized, genetically mutated cucumbers. THAT's when I finally realized. :o

About 8th grade I started taking a lot more interest in guys and couldn't take my eyes of some cuties. It took me a little while to realize it though.

it's sad how society dictates homo and bisexuality as wrong. we never even woiuld've realized it otherwise.

I knew I was into guys with my very first sexual thought. It never even occured to me to look at girls. I was about 2 months from my 12th birthday when I first thought that I wanted to kiss a boy. Eventually I thought of things other than kissing but that was what I wanted to do first.

Oddly, I have recently remembered (I'm 34) several instances of being fascinated with men and boys (at public pools and other such venues) much earlier than that, even as early as 5 or so.

My "realization" of my sexuality never came as a suprise to me, it was more of a full affirmation. I always knew I wasn't the same as the other youngsters.

Looking back and finally being able to kinda just be honest w/myself, I've known I was Bi since I was a very young boy. I was just always taught, told, brainwashed it was wrong. I married at 20yrs old and suppressed that part of me for 7yrs of marriage cause truthfully, I did and was in love with my ex, and would've probably kept on suppressing it if our marriage had worked out better. But, I honestly was never truly happy...when we seperated, I did a lot of soul searching, and questioning, I became very self confident w/at least what I knew I enjoyed physically. I then knew I had to do something because I realised that a woman probably would never satisfy my needs.
Then, I had to get over a lot of personal hangups about truthfully could I let go of the fear, embarrasment, feelings of doing what I had always been told was dirty, wrong, unclean, and a path of self destruction.
With, finally coming to terms that I would never be happy if I didn't at least try to find out. Most of those hang ups, like could I possibly like kissing someone that had hair on his face, even the fact of just being able to touch and hold a man...once I said "F*ck it" I've got to at least see, those issues were washed away quickly...then, I realized sure, the physical aspect of it was there, but could I Love, Be in love, with a man. I fortunatly have very close friend that I know I could fall for him...when I realized that the Morning of Jan1 2006 at 630am, sitting on my couch Free Writing to figure out just truly was this seriously who I was, I was completly "Peacefull" inside and I've honestly probably talked or posted enough to get people ill w/me, but I can't help the fact that I am truly happy w/me for the 1st time in my 28yr Life.
