It was originally the Off-Topic forum for a honda-acura forum. It split off of that around 2001 when the owner of the h-a forum didn't want to deal with the cost and upkeep of the off-topic forum and then it become what you know today.

There really was no other forum like this back in 2000 when it started, it just kept growing from there not many people would probably want to spend the amount of money fazle does to keep this place running though

I've had a forum going for 3 years, it's just now starting to get a lot of users because I found a niche that people want to discuss and changed the whole format of the forum. It was just your typical off-topic/general chat forum, but it has now become an "Entertainment Forum" that focus's more on movies and tv and happens to have an off-topic section.

The key with forums, as with any other site, is to find a good niche that people want to discuss but may not have a specific place to go to do so.

yeah it started at honda-acura.net where chris ran that and chris got tired of everyone going to the offtopic section instead of the other sections. I was a member at that time. Then fazle took it over an he started off-topic.net and we all moved to that forum and from thereit moved to offtopic.com and the rest is history. I've seen alot of people come and go on here.

    He has expensive servers though.

Lifetime subs, 3month subs etc, need to be taken into account, which I'm sure Fazle wont divulge.

He dont loose anything. Yea the stuff is expensive but it pays for itself eventually. Only loss is in buying up hardware needed for upgrades till it pays itself off

Ads are fairly cheap on here, I don't think Fazle takes advantage of the traffic he recieves.

not really sure where you got your info, check out big-boards big boy. It is the 6th largest message board. I would be surprised if it broke the top 100 for the most visited site daily.
