GUN How concealed does your conceal carry have to be?

Discussion in 'On Topic' started by Jimmy Jockstrap, Jun 21, 2007.

  1. Can it be in a holster and quite visible to the public?

I suppose it would be better to conceal for the element of surprise though.

It appears he's from Aus, so I don't think this will ever be and issue for him.

It depends on what state your in. But when carrying concealed, it means concealed. No printing or barrel sticking out from under your shirt.

I know in Florida that, "Impressioning," is illegal. I had one of Pinellas County's finest inform me of that when my .38's impression was visible in my jacket pocket. Weapons here have to be completely hidden.

I was wondering about this as well... I'm in PA and you're allowed to Open carry but I'd rather conceal obviously.... So is it a big deal if you print or end up showing some how?? I had a mishap the other day and was pretty embarrassed..was in line at the grocery store and dropped something at the checkout line. I bent down rather than lean over but my shirt ended up gettin caught on the holster so when I stood up it was laying on top of it.. the cashier was like "um.. you got something going on there..." needless to say I felt rather embarrassed... :wtc:

  9. nuggz the ninja from bb.com said something like,

    "cashier: is that a gun,
nn: no it is an electronic device..."

    that's why i wondered.

what happens if you gun falls out on the ground. that could happen here in aus when i take them to my car.

Big deal? Can be, depending on the LEO. I had a friend that got questioned by an officer in a Subway because he was printing.
I make it a point to not print when carrying; that is while standing or sitting. Kneeling down, or leaning down to pick something up, I tend to turn around, to hide "the bulge in my pants".
But the better your holster is, the easier it is to conceal your weapon.
I CCW a 1911 Colt Combat Commander here in Florida, wearing shorts and a T-shirt. You can dress to not print, or at least keep it to a minimum.

I think that absolute concealment is required in Texas. There certainly isn't such a thing as open carry.

I hear that dealing with LEOs is a crapshoot - some are curiously anti-gun, others very pro-CCW to the point of berating CHL holders that aren't carrying.

The state code does not even address open carry. That does not mean that if you open carry, you're at no risk for prosecution. You could potentially be cited for all sorts of public nuisance charges, etc. Not to mention the other downsides of open carry; mainly that other people know you're carrying.

I have it in a holster and worn on the inside of my pants in the back you can't tell at all when I'm standing or walking around ect it just happened that my shirt got tucked a little behind the grip so when I stood up you saw the grip above my belt line.

Some cops are worse than others though, it's true. I had my .38 snub in the pocket of a thick leather jacket, and they told me I was printing. I don't know how they knew I had a gun in there.

but they just let you know or can you actually get into trouble? Granted concealed is concealed but I would think it doesn't matter either way if you are in a state where open carry is perfectly legal.

In WA, you need a CCW to carry open or concealled. Kinda :greddy: but it does cover you if you're printing...

How was I stating that there is a requirement to conceal? How was I pretending to be a cop?

I stated that if you carry openly in GA, you could potentially be cited for disorderly conduct, or other public nuisance charges. This is not based upon made up crap, it's not based upon the law. It's based upon actual happenings. Depending upon where you are in GA, the local law-enforcement could cite you for carrying openly, especially if OTHER PEOPLE complain. You yourself might not be doing anything wrong, but others are scared of firearms, and law enforcement in many parts of GA are not exactly for the private ownership and carry of firearms. I cannot cite a particular case where this has happened around here, but I can cite a personal experience from when I was younger. I was not cited, but I was strongly urged to not continue to carry a firearm openly in public.

I do both. I will open carry and also conceal it. I have an OWB holster for my 1911. I usually have a shirt over it so it may print, but that's about it. My IWB holster is for my Glock 26 and you can never tell when I am carrying that.
