I'm curious why Fazle didn't go with the Adsense route. I'm sure it was considered before. Any ideas?

Because it'll annoy the vast majority of OTers.

he can get more money by cutting out the middle man and placing his own banner ads on his site.

It was used for a while a couple of years back. I'm not sure why it was removed, I'm not as active on here.

It's a waste of space, and isn't guaranteed revenue. Making people pay monthly for adplacement is.

Then OT would be the perfect place. It's like a middle school.

adsense for an established forum like this with majority repeat customers wouldn't work out so well.

adsense doesn't usually do well on forums. Besides the whole "adult" thing.

Why bother? The site generates more revenue with subscriptions and ads than adsense could ever generate.

I know someone high up in google and emailed them about letting fazle use adsense on the site. They contacted fazle and approved him. Originally he tried to get it but they wouldn't allow it and I emailed my guy high up in the chain to help fazle out. I told them the sections of the site that has some nws content and he can make it so adsense wasn't in those sections. I suggested to him placing adsense after the 1st post of every thread and at the top of the forum but he just put it at the top.

Alot of people were for it and alot were against it, people started ad blocking it and people even went as far as to make edus on how to block it with firefox. Then people started clickign the ads for no reason and he got nailed with a invalid clicks email and he took it down. It lasted about a month.

why ever bother to use your "connections" when it's been known by most everyone that adsense doesn't convert on forums lol?

The most ad-sense sites as a rule are amazingly silly!

    Happy users = more subscriptions

    More subscriptions = more revenue

Who needs space-wasting ads when you've got thousands of subscribers?
