and when I try, i get this:
BTW, i downloaded that for my friend
what file system is on the external HD.
find that out by selecting it and hitting apple+ I
i was going to ask a question about that. Why do I get a lot of dmgs when I open up a program??
IIRC, you can't write to ntfs file system from osx
b/c you're opening the program from the .dmg instead of moving the right file to the application folder
but i dragged the firefox file from there into applications. Then I dragged it into my dock
So what do I do now?
reformat it in FAT32 using disk utility, but youll lose everything that on there, so make sure you back it up somewher else
that's alot of files But fuck it, I minus well start now
borrow a external HD from someone, or if ur at a college then go to the library and tell them u need to borrow one to back it up.
it's a 160gb, with 90 gigs taken up. But i'm purging old files that I dont need anymore. So I only needed about 14 gigs that i really needed to save Thanks for the help
which one should I format it under? MS-DOS? Or MAC OS extended?
well if your only gonna use it on a mac, then u can use mac's file system, but i assume you may interchange files with a PC every now and again, so i'd leave it Fat32 (ms dos)
I was looking at it. I had some movies on there that i dont watch anymore, and some that there were corrupted
and it's done
i would have done 2 partitions, one with 32gb in Fat32 format, and the remaining space could be partitioned using NTFS.
but really, i'd probably just burn a data cd/dvd to give to your friend, and not worry about weeding through my files.
i my external partitioned because I was going to use it for my gaming machine, but I got my mac. But i had no clue that OS X couldnt write to NTFS. But everything was organized and I had a bunch of shit that was useless. Im planning to do a format and reinstall, but I think i'll wait until Leopard
^werd, i need a fresh install (mines getting sluggish).
I'm not bothering to do it until leopard....hopefully the end of Jan/ begining of Feb.
