I have Heroes Season 1 in HD XVID format on a external storage USB drive and I want to watch the episodes on my ps3. I set up my media server but my ps3 doesn't recognize my usb storage drive.

How can I set this up so I can watch these on my ps3?

stream through tversity, windows media player, ps3 media server (what I use), and other similar applications.

Personally, I just use ps3 media server and transfer the files to my ps3 hard drive and play from the ps3

I use PS3 Media Server to stream from my PC to my PS3. Lets me stream 720p/1080p-resolution .mkv files without any converting so I can have sexytime HD content on my 46" LCD :hs:

follow this. You will have to be hardwired (Ethernet cord) to properly stream HD content however. Otherwise it will shutter.

This is what I left it doing when I left for work cause it was taking forever. Its prolly going to take up half my storage too so I might need to figure something else out.

    I'll look into Tversity

I never thought about doing that for HD content. Mine while wireless could not even handle 720p streaming so I had to run a land line.

For those that transfer the files to ps3 how long does it take for say a typical 8 gb HD file to trAnsfer?

Heroes Season 1 turned out to be about 10Gigs and it prolly took something like 4+hrs, i think..

The full season is 15gigs but it also didn't d/l some of the episodes. For some reason, the ps3 doesn't recognize .mkv files

    Like everyone else said

PS3 Media Server works well, plays almost every type of media you can throw at it.

The PS3 itself can only play select media formats.

For everything else I use PlayOn (which can also stream media to your PS3 if you choose it to) but it costs $39.99 but I got it for $9.99 on black friday.

And when I mean everything else I mean like Netflix, Hulu, and 90% of the same stuff Comcast has On Demand.
