I just want to see what programs are connecting to the internet, mostly to try and close those and leave the connection for Torrents

Check your firewall log, and it will tell you what programs are accessing the interwebs, then just uncheck the one's you don't want to have access or vice versa. ;)

netstat -ba to see what processes are using which connection.

netstat -bav to see which dlls are tagged along with the process.
