my computer runs really loud. my friend compared it to a jet powering up as he turned on his near silent case.

i want to pinpoint the source and fix it. im fairly certain that its the powersupply, but i dont know of a way to check.

ive got the fan on the athlon xp, the 5 case fans (silent LED ones from frys), 2 hds, radeon 9600 pro, 2 optical drives, and then the generic $35 350w ps :)

any ideas or should i just go and replace the ps? i really like the modular one from ultra, its 25-30 db appearently. dunno anything about decibles tho, so that might be the same volume, but it is advertised as "quiet."

    thanks in advance!

    Erm... listen closely?

Considering you have 7 cooling sources, it's going to be loud anyway...

cardboard tube. put it to your ear and point it at the different areas.

Try temporarily unplugging one fan at a time (or unplugging all the case fans with the side off, then plugging them in one at a time).
