You can probably buy a half decent case at CompUSA or a similar store for about $30. Like above you can also drop the floppy.

How about pricing out a Pentium 4 mobo and processor just to compare? Are you dead set on an AMD?

Dropping the floppy and going with a 1.7 celeron combo brings it down to 490 shipped

Yea, but read what it's going to be used for... Internet, Word, and some games. The Celeron will be fine for that.

I think it's a pretty decent system for the price.

I only mentioned to price out a P4 since I did not know the $$ defferences between the two, but figured a P4 was cheaper.

I doubt there's really a devastating performance loss between the two though. It probably wouldn't be that much. If it's only $3 then fine. He wants to get the price lower and I gave him an opinion on it.

If you had just posted the link and not been an asshole about it, everything would be fine. IL+1 :ugh:

And for word, internet, basic games you don't need anything fancy. All the computers at my office do that just fine and they're mostly Celeron 333s and PII 450s. The local shop here has a mobo + Duron 1800+ for $119 canadian and something like that would do fine for this application.

    You don't need PC-3200 RAM for an XP2000+. DDR3200= 200mhz FSB, 2000 only has a 133FSB, use pc2100 and save $

EDIT: HOLY SHIT RAM prices are high now! going from 3200 to 2100 won't matter much

    See details in your post

Personally, you may save some money if you got yourself a barebone system, just to start things off. There are many sites that offer this, but here's an example; http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_tlc.asp?CatId=31

Prices go from 19.00 and up, but you get what you pay for.

wait for outpost.com to have another of their specials with the mobo and cpu combos for under 75 shipped. or if you have a local Frys Electronics near you.
