I don't live with her since I'm at school but since I got home last night, I've seen her eat three bowls of cereal and half a pancake. This is really typical of her. She survives on cereal and milk and maybe something else. It's an incredibly unhealthy diet and I'd like to convince her to change. She's not a particularly inactive person - she likes to go to the gym and go on the treadmill. Her eating habits are just terrible ... and I think it affects her in ways like she hardly ever has the energy to do anything and she is always going to bed early/sleeping throughout the day.

werd. The person itself is the bottleneck in her change process.

yeah I have. I've commented that I think her diet is pretty unhealthy. I've even offered to make her food ... she never seems to do anything about it though.

My mom is overweight. She's been overweight as long as I can remember.

She wants nothing to do with my ideas about lifting weights, or exercising or anything else. She would rather try every last fad diet out there and walk one afternoon a week for a half hour and wonder why she's still 50 lbs heavier than she should be.

I've tried to help, but she wants nothing to do with it, so as much as it sucks to say this, she's on her own and will probably never get any thinner.

For one she has to want to change it you can't, but maybe you could just keep trying to supplement small things in. IE buy her some bananas and put them on the counter where she sees them daily. Eventually shell try one and maybe shell like it or add it. Either way your going to have to make a valiant effort considering shes probably mid-age and has her ways almost all set.
