How big of a ps would I need for..

    two 8800 GTX and an am2 4600.

    Build is for my roomate who's on a budget?

    a single 8800GTX will consume about 12-15 amps, (145-180 Watts), double that for SLI.
    AMD 4600, about 7.5A (89W)
    drives and shit, est about 10A (120W)

    you will need at least a 600W PSU with 40+ amps total on the +12V rail.

    but also note that 2 8800GTXs will require 4 PCI-E Power connectors.
    most 600W PSUs only has 2 PCI-Es, so this will force you to look at the 750W and above models.

    Just a thought. He's on a budget and wants 2 8800GTX cards.
    They run about $300-400 each, right?
    Why not get a GTX260 or GTX280? Just one of either one of them should perform just as well as 2 8800GTX cards. Even a single nVidia 9800 GX2 would be better.

    the 8800GTX was already discontinued (but still in stock on some stores).
    I was thinking they already have one of the cards, and is looking for another to SLI. :dunno:
