The 70-200 f/2.8 is a BAD ASS lens. IMO, Nikon's best zoom lens offered at any price. It's HEAVY, though. Something like 3 pounds. Carried over 6-8 hours a day, it's a work out.

It's funny when you use your 70-200 for a while then switch to a smaller lens, it feels like OMG my camera is soooo light now!! :mamoru:

The thing that makes the 70-200 heavy isn't the fact that it only weigh's 3 lbs. If you hold a 3lb stick in the middle it isn't too bad, but if you hold the 3lb stick at an end and keep it level, that's where it gets heavy. I don't know how better to explain it. :hs:

Yeah a 20lb plate isnt that heavy to hold. But holding it perfectly still to take a picture for 3 hours sure does get TIRING.

well, if you want to get technical, you are actually sticking the weight closer to the middle of the lens than the end :bigthumb:

    ok here's a great example.

A broom weigh's about 3 lbs. If you hold the broom at the middle it weighs almost nothing. but..... If you hold the broom horizontally by the tip of the handle... :eek3: you can feel the weight... :bigthumb:

I'm no scientist but I know that the longer the weight is the heavier it is. so if the broom and the 70-200 were the same weight the broom would be heavier but at least you will get an idea wtf I'm talking about. I suck at explaining things. :hs:

you need to get a new camera, they have these new ones and...get this....they take a picture in a SPLIT second!

No more holding your camera in the same place for 3 hrs waiting for the film to expose!
