I am a professional musician (bass guitar), and I have had overuse injuries in my wrists and hands in the past as a result of it. Weightlifting and other exercise activities I do (like mountain biking, which I had to quit entirely) exacerbate these issues. On days that I lift heavy or otherwise use my hands strenuously I take ibuprofen to help relax the inflammation I can feel coming on because if it gets bad it impedes my ability to practice and work and in some cases makes it impossible.

Is it terrible for me to take two ibuprofen pills (200mg each) after weight lifting on a regular basis, meaning 2-3 times a week? Would lifting gloves help prevent irritation from occurring?

I could give a fuck if it means I can continue to lift normally without it wrecking my hands, and besides I lift in a home gym where there is no one to see my gaping vagina.

I've taken 1200mg today and will take another 800 before I go to bed

I wouldn't use it regularly for long periods of time though

:hsughno:I read somewhere painkillers (forget which ones, maybe ibpro is in the clear) reduce protein synthesis by 30-40 percent

Most of the common over the counter paink killers we use are called NSAIDS[IMG] (Non-steroid anti inflammatory drugs), which include Asprin, ibuprofen (Motrin), Naproxen (Aleve), and various others. Some prescription painkillers are also NSAIDs too. Acetaminophen (brand name tylenol), often used over the counter is the only commonly used over the counter pain killer not a NSAID.
It turns out according to studies in the last year that NSAIDs and Acetaminophen, both can dramatically drop your rate of protein synthesis. When protein synthesis drops you can’t build muscle effectively. In order to build muscle, you need a higher protein synthesis rate than breakdown rate, so there is a net gain in the muscles.

    The more you know...

First they're bad for your stomach. Used too much can cause real issues. I've seen a good amount of guys run into problems that use NSAIDS too much.. or rather I havne't seen, just heard a lot of stories about high level lifters that use them a ton.

Second, they fuck with protein synthesis. Not an issue for you because you took the easy way out and use steroids because you have no willpower to achieve anythin beyond Lance Bass naturally you fucking cocksucker.

No but really it's mostly just the stomach thing.

Took about 800mg/day spread into 2 doses for 3 months, caused minor stomach ulcers. My stomach still isn't 100%. Would highly recommend avoiding regular use.

Saw an article awhile back about someone who's liver failed due to taking Tylenol, they won the lawsuit against the makers of Tylenol and everything, but it seems to be fairly rarely that that happens, and you would have to be pre-disposed to it.

Coffee did the same, or just exasperated the existing problem.

On a related note, l-glutamine is supposed to be good for your digestive track so supplementing with it may or may not help.

Plus believe it or not it is mildly mentally addictive. I had withdrawal symptoms when I stopped and I do know people who take it compulsively.

I thought they only cause stomach issues if you drink on them?

And bro you juiced when you're 90% bodyfat, give me a break.

No, they can cause them on their own. Taking it with a meal would help.

A lot of the times its better to just ice and rest instead of popping tons of NSAIDS. The only time I do it is when my tendonitis flares up to the point that I cramp up (bicep tendonitis) just sitting, or shaving, or some shit.

If you use NSAIDS to prevent pain when training.. learn to use heat topicals such as Blue Heat or for more powerful shit.. Toast or Equiblock (toast at drugstores, equiblock at horse stores). Cover the area in neoprene sleeves, wraps, or whatever when training.

NSAID's also reduce blood flow to kidneys, potentially damaging them if you over use.
