i dont hunt, i usually just targetshoot at 100yds or less, i'm just curious about picking up a surplus rifle as a first gun to shoot with, but i dont want to pick one up if the accuracy is aweful, like 2 inch groupings likely???

    thanks

    2 inchs at what distance?

An "average" SKS will probably shoot 4-5 inches at 100 yards with ComBloc surplus ammo.

The people I know with SKS's use them to coyote hunt....out of helicopters. :big grin:

They are decently accurate out to 100 yards but don't expect too much, especially with Wolf ammo.

    4-5" @ 100? That's worse than I thought.

I might have to rethink buying one.

    2-4moa in my experience.

If you can pick one up, fire open sights at a target at 100 yards and have the accuracy of the rifle be the limitiing factor, you are in the minority.

I'm more concerned about the 200 300 and 500 yard lines.. I'm used to firing iron sights at all these ranges with an M16.

Then you're looking at the wrong weapon (and really, the wrong caliber)...

the only sks i've ever shot actually impressed me how accurate it was with iron sights. was at a friend's lease. they have a "shootin rock" that's at least 200yds off and we were hittin it every time and we were shooting free handed standing up. see if you can borrow one to try out to determine if it is accurate enough for you.
