It's a term police are using to describe brazen home invasions, and it's a crime you may not have heard of before. How can you avoid being "house jacked"?
A victim, who did not want to be identified, talked to 24-Hour News 8. A hooded man broke into his house and attacked his wife. Then, the robber turned the weapon on him.
"He jumped up at me and stuck this gun in my face," said the victim.
These robbers are moving into Marion County and striking all over. Coming up tonight on 24-Hour News 8 at 6:00, we'll show you the numbers and tell you how experts advise people to protect themselves and their families against a "house jack."

    ________________________________________________________________

Apparently people are breaking into people's houses and they are purposely doing it while the people are still home. More on the news at 6. Back to you OT.

Buy a gun and make sure it's accessible? How hard is that?

Get a simple but sturdy lockbox and keep it by your bed. You can get them with mechanical button combination locks. Just push a couple of buttons and it's open. That way if you need it you don't have to fuck with combinations or keys. It's small, sturdy and lightweight. If someone finds it they're more likely to take the whole box with them. At least if you walk in on someone breaking in they won't have your gun in their hand.

I'd love to see the look on that burglar's face when you come around a corner and you already have your gun stuck in his face .

Never will forget the time I pulled into the driveway and the lights CAME ON inside my house. No cell phone, no gun, no one home.

After cautiously rushing to my safe, I found that the power had been out and we had left a light on when we left. Just so happend that when we pulled into the drive, the power was restored.

I don't recall why I took my gun from my car, but now, I never make that mistake...

so about once every 3 months (and that being a conservative number, more like 1 month) you have a house-jacker at your place?

edit: just noticed the double negative too :Owned:

Its more commonly called home invasion and its not all that uncommon. Usually it involves people who are known to have drugs, but sometimes it happens to innocent people too. Especially common around vegas, even happened to a guy from genmay a few months ago. I believe in his case he was in college and renting a house with his friends. Its like 1am and they're playing xbox and they hear beating on their door. They think its their dumbass friends or room mate that forgot the key or something. Seconds later guys with handguns and shotguns are on top of them after breaking down the door. They made off with a ton of electronics and smashed the guys up pretty good. Someone's friends probably told someone about all the cool stuff, they saw xbox boxes on the curb....who knows. Anyway if it happens and you don't have a gun on your hip you might be too far away, but it probably won't happen to you either. Ymmv.

Hopefully, just remember the point isn't to knock on the door like a girlscout selling cookies then rush you when you open it. Its to kick the door in within a few seconds and be on you while youre watching tv or on the toilet posting on offtopic before you even have a chance to think about whats going on or react. Alot of people have a gun they could get, but how many would have a gun and be ready for several armed intruders 30 seconds after hearing some loud noises at the front door? Scary thoughts :)
