Is there a file in Windows that acts like the opposite of the HOSTS file? As we know HOSTS allows you to disable access to certain websites. I would rather disable ALL access and ALLOW the ones that I want.

I've done a good deal of searching and haven't found anything. I know that there is software and hardware out there to do the same thing but I wanted to implement my own setup using the HOSTS and ???? file.

    Thanks.

You could disable DNS lookup and use the hosts file to map the IP addresses of the sites you wish to grant access to. But this really doesn't deny access completely, as users can still access any site using an IP address. This is still true if you use the hosts file to map bogus IP addresses to hostnames. What you really want is a firewall to grant or deny access to the web.

Look into Sygate's products for white and black lists
