Why is there a huge difference on the plans? (btw Im trying to start of a hosting and web design company)

last night I signed up for a reseller account Copper package just to start out and then upgrade as a I get more customers... and this is the plan:

    20g - Space
    175- Bandwidth
    34.95/monthly

+ plus goodies (unlimited email, domains, mysqls databases)

It comes with a Control Panel for the webmaster and Cpanel for the customers...

but today I'm taking a look at the WebHosting packages.. and I like this one:
    Swamp package:

    200gb - disk space
    2,000gb - bandwidth
    14.95/monthly

    + plus the same goodies..

so wtf, Why is the reseller package so crappy? is it not possible to create a hosting company using the web hosting packages?

    thanks...

with the reseller you can make individual cpanel accounts and sell them.
with the regular account, you cant.

I'm done with places like that. I'm all about using VPS or colocated servers now.

We're looking at colocating a server in the next few months. 500 gigs of transfer on a dedicated 10mb line

you don't need cpanel and do you actually know anyone who uses the "goodies" that come along with hosting packages?

Once you're familiar enough with it, you can do everything from the command line that you can do in cpanel. They also have Webmin that you can do most of hte things in as well. It's not as "pretty" as cpanel, but it does the same thing.

I wish i Knew what I'm doing, since I'm a newbie at this, so a Cpanel would be great..

so by owning a VPS, you basically have to everything by yourself?

Right, which is the point of a VPS. If you're not sure what you're doing with configuring servers and stuff, I guess sticking somewhere with a cpanel works.

My sites simply got too large and all the shared hosts I had kept canceling my account because my sites were drawing too much traffic :Owned:

If you are looking for VPS, you can't beat wiredtree. Quick responses to technical questions, fast setup and servers are great for the price.

i own one but the best thing about liquidweb is they help you with stuff. its managed hosting, and cpanel takes care of most of the stuff so you don't need to know linux.

cPanel may help manage most of the clients needs, but I still consistently hear that it is not as user friendly as you and I might think. Some people just can't grasp the concept. <-- not that its entirely a bad thing, thats why we are here to support them :o.

Cpanel is user friendly actually it you can't figure out some linux concepts then youll have trouble with any system rather its cpanel or not. Long as the server software is kept up dated and your not usnig beta or alpha tested crap and using it in a productional enviroment itll last for years. I still have a server WITH cpanel on it running since 2002 never had it reloaded.. could use an OS update though :hsd: but functions just fine. If you want Cpanel on a colo server some datacenters can provide a license but if you need to get an external license its kinda pricey if you buy directly from them. Check with a reseller you can usually get them cheaper. Oh since I had a Virtuozzo license I got the manual that came with it :mamoru: once i read it front to back its easy to maintain
