    Hey guys.

I was released this morning after spending three days in the hospital with pneumothorax in my right lung (partial collapse). It happened when I was riding in my friends Jeep Grand Cherokee and it broke down. We had to get off the highway, as it was blocking traffic, so I pushed it, alone, for a few hundred yards into the Wal Mart parking lot.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pneumothorax

Symptoms were a dull pain in chest, in the back by by my right should, and being unable to take deep breaths. I thought it was just a pulled muscle, and slept on it. In the morning, it was no better, so I went to the clinic, still thinking it was a muscle thing. They instantly recognized it, took an Xray, and put me in the ambulance to the hospital. They instert a tube in my chest to drain the air out of the cavity where my lung should be, allowing it to reinflate. 3 days later, here I am.

I can't work out or do any strenous activity for 4 weeks. :sadwavey: Not to mention never being able to scuba dive, smoke, or play the trumpet ever again. Oh well, those activities suck anyway. :hs:

So be careful guys, the most common patients for this are tall, slim, males, aged 20-40. It can be spontenous or from over-exertion, among other things.

Yes, I'm a skinny bitch, thank you for your concern.

Because I lift and I post here, and I can't lift now anymore because I fucked up my lungs whilst doing something similar to lifting (pushing a fucking jeep)

Not really. 1/3 patients who have had a collapsed lung will have it again at some point in their life. It's caused by a weak spot in your lungs tearing. I think in my case it was caused by holding my breath while I was pushing really hard on the jeep. I'm pretty sure that if I had been doing proper breathing techniques like if I was doing weight training that this wouldn't have happened. I guess just never hold your breath when you're doing a set, just exhale naturally on each rep?

I think that the best way to recover is to just let it rest and heal itself up naturally. Lung tissue isn't like muscle tissue, you don't need to put it through physical therapy or anything, I don't think. :o

Congenital weak spots in the lung that just couldn't take the pressure. :dunno: You never know they're there until they pop on you.

that sucks man...i have had a full collapse when i was 16 and a partial when i was 17. the same bullshit about being tall, slim is what the docs told me too. I've been lifting for the past 4 years without problem...so give it time and dont give up on lifting if it is what you want to do, this shouldnt stop you
