i've always had axiety but lately i've been getting horrible axiety. I've been on every kind of meds you can think of. Nothing has helped except xanax. I think about the future and things that should even matter. What do I do? More meds, Axiety specialist (if they even exist), i'm really open to any ideas. please help

What do you get anxiety over?

Every thread I've ever seen from you was about how shitty you thought your life was (except for that one thread that was funny because you said life was great ), so what has changed? Have you made any steps to imporve your life?

Stop thinking about what medications can make you better, and see if you can't make behavioral changes in your life. I'm actually going to the doctor on thursday for my anxiety (basically everyone on my moms side of the family is on zoloft for it) but I really want to try cognitive behavioral therapy first. Not only are there more positive long term results for anxiety when treating with behavioral therapy vs. medication alone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anxiety_disorder#Treatment) , but I'm a fan of doing things myself and I really feel like if I can get over this and make myself better without prescription drugs, then I feel like I've kinda accomplished something more.

Now, your case may be different. Rarely is my anxiety dehabilitating, and theres certainly people who NEED to be on medications for their anxiety... but if you've really tried every drug out there for this, then maybe you NEED to see a therapist and find out whats REALLY bothering you?

Or you can just skip the cigarettes and think for a second why they calm you down. Take a few slow deep breaths instead.

I had quit smoking untill I made a few bad choices and wound up on a 72 hour hold. Only time outside was to smoke, and since then I haven't really bothered trying to quit.

i just got some lorazepam for my anxiety. I usually get relaly anxious when going out to new places, or going to small shops and such. Its the worst when I goto an airport though, even though its a huge place, I just get really anxious waiting to get on the plane. Mostly my anxiety makes me need to goto the bathroom, which is really shitty, because if I was just anxious about things and just locked up or whatnot that would be better then needing to shit all the time.

Hopefully this lorazepam works out. I have a flight on wednesday so I will give it a whirl

I hate taking medicine, and have been prescribed a million different things that I tried and didn't like (prozac/celexa/zyprexa/etc) and the only thing I've found that truley helps me is Lorazepam. I take 1.5mg a day (3x .5mg) and it really has made it so I can function without freaking out over stupid shit.

I hate hate hate having to rely on pills to get through my day but I think that Ativan (lorazepam) has really been a lifesaver for me... literally.

glad to hear that. My doc gave it to me for an as needed pill, so I wont be taking it daily, he doesnt want me to do that so he said that if I notice that I start taking it more often and relying on it, then it might not be a good thing. Of course I don't always get anxiety, just in certain situations that I can predict. So I think this will help out in a big way. I will report back after wednesday when I first use it.

I started with being prescribed 3mg/day, so we probably don't have the same issues heh. I really hope this works for you man, I know it's made my life much more enjoyable. Only shitty thing is NO NO NO NO NO LIQUOR. I'm 21 in a few weeks so that kind of blows. Seriously though, no alcohol.

the pills i have are .5mg, so its not a huge does, hopefully just enough to do the trick. Have you drank alcohol with it before? There are no warnings on my bottle. Just says something about taking it alone or with alcohol can impair driving. I wont be drinking alcohol when on it anyway. I am going to vegas on wednesday but after the 8 hour travel time it should be worn off enough for me to be fine.

It just makes me get super drunk super easy. Like 2-3 shots and I'm out. Don't know if its the same for everyone, just a heads up.

thanks man. Like I said, I don't plan on taking it then going to drink, so I should be all set. I took one pill today to see if I had any reaction to it, and didnt feel any different then normal. I mean I didn't have any anxiety attacks, but I didn't put myself in a situation where I would normally get one. Anyway, I was just taking it to make sure I was going to collapse or soemthing.

Glad to hear that the Lorazepam is working for you! I too am on .5mg as needed and I'm finding myself using them more, however it's due to insomnia as I know they allow me to relax and get to sleep. Going to a psychiatrist next tuesday to start dealing with things I should have dealt with years, and about $500,000 ago :hs:

i took one of the lorazepams yesterday just to make sure it wasn't going to do anything bad to me since I have asthma. One of the warnings online say dont take it if you have asthma. Well anyway, I took it and felt fine, so I am good to go to use if at the airport on wednesday, we shall see if it actually calms me down or not. I will report back after then.

No, I actually enjoy flying as long as I am not anxious about it. What I don't like is feeling trapped, since I am in a plane, I can't just leave the plan when I want. Kinda like when I goto the movies I have to sit on the aisle, i dont like being trapped in the middle, not as severe, but you get the idea.

I also have anxiety about bathrooms for the most part, if there is not a bathroom around I get very anxious and need to use the bathroom just cause its not around. Same thing with the plane, yes there are bathrooms, but sometimes theres a line, which is not good, makes me anxious thus causing me to have to use the bathroom.

Although for flying my anxiety is at its worst when I am in the airport waiting to get on the plain, I get very jittery, have to rub my hands together alot, get the chills, and all that junk. Once I am on the plane I am calmed down a bit. So hopefully taking the lorazepam will help keep me calm before the flight and slightly during the flight.

Just thinking about it right now I am getting very anxious.

ahh, see there is a differnece between us with the feeling trapped, I actually enjoy being in small areas for some reason, but obviously not trapped in a small area, unless of course its a bathroom  But yeah I love being in a very small area for some reason.

But just like you i will check for my boarding pass, look at the gate number, etc a bunch of times. And yes the bathroom is also the first thing I look for when going to a new place, I pretty much know where the bathroom will be in most places, but damn it really sucks having that part of the anxiety. Good thing I am not a germaphobe though, I could care less about the germs

I am becoming more and more aware of the germs around. I have anit-bacteria lotion on my desk here and use it every few minutes :hs:
