At 12:20 a.m. on November 5, 2009, a robbery occurred on campus in the area of the Village Apartments. A student was walking to her apartment in the Village E when she was confronted by a male subject who reportedly was armed with a small handgun. The student gave the suspect her cell phone and he fled the area by running west. The suspect is described as an African American male, approximately 20 years of age, 5'7" tall, thin build, wearing a brown jacket and blue jeans.

The Department of Public Safety and the St. Louis Police are investigating and have searched the area.

Students are reminded to walk in groups, to use the SLU-Ride escort program and to contact the Department of Public Safety if they observe suspicious persons on or near campus, by calling 314-977-3000.

Attention all students, staff and faculty:

At 3:11 a.m. a Saint Louis University student was walking alone to her Village apartment, near the north alley by Village F, when a subject snatched her purse from her arm and fled west. The suspect was observed by witnesses to enter a white pick-up truck which was parked just east of that location. Upon entering the vehicle, the suspects drove west on Laclede towards Vandeventer.

The suspect is described as an African American female, 25-30 years old, wearing a pink top and blue jean pants, with braided hair.

The vehicle she entered was possibly a white four door, Ford F-150 pick-up truck, with silver trim. The truck was being driven by a heavy set African American male.

    The victim sustained minor injuries.

The Department of Public Safety and the St. Louis Police are investigating.

On May 3, 2009 at 4:20 a.m. four students were robbed by a male subject, off-campus, as they walked east on Olive from North Spring. The students resisted the robbery, captured the suspect and held him for the St. Louis Police. All of the students' property was recovered. Two of the students were treated for minor injuries at the scene of the incident by EMS.

At 6:20 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2009, a Saint Louis University student was the victim of an attempt robbery while she was standing on Grand Avenue, in front of the Medical School. She was approached by two male subjects who demanded her money. When the victim told them that she had no money, the suspects left the area by walking north on Grand Avenue. The victim then took the SLU shutlle back to her dorm where she contacted the Department of Public Safety and St. Louis Police.

The suspects are described as two African American males, both about 6'2" in height, medium build, one of the males had a goatee and both were wearing black hooded sweatshirts, dark jeans and white tennis shoes. The suspects did not display a weapon, nor did they state that they had a weapon.

Department of Public Safety officers and St. Louis Police officers searched the area and did not locate the suspects. Public Safety officers will be increasing their patrols in this area.

Students, staff and faculty are advised to walk in groups when possible, to utilize DPS escort services and to contact DPS at 314-977-3000 if you observe suspicious persons near campus.

    Students, Staff and Faculty,

This e-mail is being sent to you as an informational message so that the University community is well informed about incidents that have occured on the edge of campus or just off campus.

Over the past two weeks, there have been three incidents on Lindell at Spring, where an unidentified male has approached a female student and touched the student in an inappropriate manner. In the first incident, ten days ago, the subject was riding a bike and touched the female as he rode up behind her. In the two incidents that occurred this week, the subject quickly touched one student as he approached her from behind and one student as he approached from the front.

In all three cases, the subject is described as an African American male, between the ages of 16 to 20 years old, 5'9" to 6'0" in height, slim build and dark complexion. In the two most recent incidents the subject is wearing a dark hooded puffy coat.

The St. Louis Police Department and the Department of Public Safety are working closely together to identify the subject. DPS has increased patrol in the area and is using surveillance to try and capture the suspect.

If you observe a subject matching this description, immediately contact the Department of Public Safety at 977-3000 and the St. Louis Police Department by dialing 911.

    All Students, Staff and Faculty,

At 6:30 p.m. tonight, two Saint Louis University employees were robbed while they were standing between Tegeler Hall and Fitzgerald Hall on Lindell Blvd. The employees were approached by three African American males between the ages of fourteen and sixteen years of age. One of these subjects displayed a weapon and robbed one of the victims of her purse. The three males then ran northeast across Lindell. The employees contacted the Department of Public Safety and the St. Louis Police. DPS officers were in the area and began searching for the suspects. Officers Rebekkah Hollon and Robert Will observed two of the suspects in the rear alley at 3100 Washington and took them into custody. The employees identified the suspects and the employees property was recovered. The weapon, which was later determined to be a pellet, was recovered.

The third subject is still at large. He is described as an African American male, approximately 14-16 years old, 5'9" tall, having his hair in corn rolls, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt. He was last seen running away from campus, northeast across Lindell.

I commend these officers for their quick and brave actions.

I got a lot more too.

  14. Before Laurel graduated the University of Washington she'd get reports almost weekly about robberies and the like as people walked the various paths. She had to walk to a parking lot pretty far away a few nights a week, in a location with few people. She carried too.

I get emails like this all the time as well. My favorite was one subjects description:

Black male, between 18 and 25, about 5'10" to 6', wearing all black and possibly a black apron.

    WTF, an apron?

    I went to SLU also.

I used to love reading the DPS updates. And campus can be so sketchy. While I was there, I watched a guy get stabbed at the shitty shell, had a theology teacher shot in the stomach walking to his car, and had a couple friends robbed at gunpoint.

I used to get those all the time last year here at my school. They upped the city patrol significantly this year along with campus cops patrolling the surrounding streets. The TV show Cops was running around here with the police a few weeks ago and I managed to get on the show when they broke my friends party.

yet people still won't give in to the fact that allowing students to carry would help this problem
