My friend's dell laptop harddrive crashed and he had to get a new one. He replaced the HDD and his laptop works fine, but wants to try to get some data off the old one. Is there anyway I can hook it up to my Macbook and try to recover something?

i cant afford it now, i only have a little bit of money and this is the only thing i can afford.

Once i plug it into my computer, how do I search the harddrive? It's a windows xp drive so would I still be able to search it?

You can still see the files, unless it is totally FUBAR.

You can read from it, but wouldn't be able to write anything to it (not that you need to in your case).

    Yep, unless it's damaged.
