i'm wondering if a mac mini with support vga 1366x768 @60hz?

also, can they smoothly play .MKV HD files? i know for a fact that my c2d macbook chokes to death when it attempts to play my children on men.mkv. vlc tells me "computer too slow?"

however my desktop computer can play it somewhat decently (slightly jittery at times, but only noticeable if your looking for it)
it's an AMD athlon 64 3000+, ECS board (cheapo), 1gb ram, gigabyte 7600 nvidia AGP 256mb, sata/150 Hard drive
(i actually got similar results with an ati all in wonder 9600 128mb agp card)

i really like how my macbook handles videos with niceplayer, quicktime, vlc. it's easy to drag and drop a video_ts folder, it plays iso's easily

my desktop pc works fine, but i like os x better. i'd like to replace my desktop pc with an apple

should i look into a macpro? they are pretty pricey
    maybe a used g5? ideas?

i can hook up my 8 year old G4 to my tv and it will display 1366x768 @60hz just fine.

LIke you can can't play .mdk files though, too old and doesn;t have enough horsepower

    that's the problem..
both macbook and macmini have onboard shared video...
that's the bottle neck right there...for your HD video files (.mkv)

but the macmini should handle that resolution no problem.
