Seriously thinking about upgrading my D16Y7 but I don't know where to start from.
start by swapping the motor
werd, get a y8, then you'll have vtec
Let's start with your age and budget, to determine if you can even pull this off or if you're just aiming for Rice.
The best upgrade for a Civic is to replace it.
With what? Certainly not a shitty as fuck VW.
Dues' car > any Civic > *
At least you don't need to, unlike a particular German brand
I never said he should get a VW. I said the best way to upgrade a Civic is to replace it with a different car. There are no really good upgrades for a Civic, short of rebuilding the entire engine, suspension, and chassis, at which point it no longer qualifies as a Civic.
Or you can get a turbo kit for it and boost it for about 1500 all said and done with Hondata or similar chip tuning. I had a hatch that I swapped in a JDM B18C/ITR engine. Spent 5k for the front clip. K-series are now the new hotness. However, if I were to do another SOHC honda instead of a motor swap you can just turbo it for a lot less and still have a very reliable daily driver. Not to mention money left over to play with just incase something happens or you decide to rebuild the motor.
K-series is the "new hotness" because that's the only thing that swaps into a 7th-gen. At least with his (6thgen) he's got a few options for what to do.
Again - it depends on his budget. If he's expecting to run 12's with bolt-ons, he should just buy a V6 Mustang.
No because K-series is the newest platform and puts down more power stock than the b-series motors and because it uses i-vtec versus the old school vtec. K series also swaps into all platforms.
i have never, ever, seen a civic i liked from a performance stand point.
2400 pounds, 185 hp, front and rear race-tuned double wishbone suspension, helical LSD.
Yeah the Civic Type R is totally lame
all that and you get fwd to...ya, pretty lame. Sorry, just not into fwd "sports" cars.
I swapped out my d16z6 with a ls swap and boosted it, it fun to drive and fast enough for me....
lol nobody "tunes" 7th gen civic's....they handle like shit, they are heavy and ugly..those cars suck.
i have a d16y8. not the best, but at least it has teh vtecs..... sohc vtecsss
no more Civic crew. We all got older, sold the civics and bought better cars.
I'm buying a CRX pretty soon
and what do you drive?
a well tuned honda will anihilate a lot of vehicles you think are better. I guarantee it.
different drivetrains don't always mean an advantage/disadvantage. Its just requires different driving techniques.
if you're wondering, no I don't own a honda. they get stolen too much
