So I'm at College, and can't always make it to the gym. What are some exercises that I could do in my dorm when I can't get to the gym? Thanks a lot.

Well, we've got a gym and weight room, but some times I only have like an hour in between things I do all day, so I don't have time to get down there, change, work out, then come back. I'm just starting to work out though. After a couple of years of not being active at all, it's shows, and I need to start taking control of my habits.

You don't sound very motivated at all. You CAN make it work, if you're serious about getting in shape you should just go to your gym.

I completely agree. I want to get there so bad, but I can't motivate myself, although I recently looked at myself in the mirror, and decided it was time to start doing something about it. I'm actually getting ready to go to the gym right now. I used to play baseball and soccer, but I never really worked out at a gym or anything, so I have no idea what to do. I know that 80% of people that work out use some sort of creatine, though. Should I try some? I'm just looking for something to get started with

First you need to have a consistent workout regimen. Then, you need to get your diet on track. Supplements should come last and after a few years, you can start pinning!

Ok, well right now, I'm heading to the gym, but I hope to come back to some good things to do as a beginner. I know that beginning, I should do plenty of cardio, so I'll work on that. If anyone can help me set something up to start with, I would really appreciate it. I just really want to do something about myself, but I want to do it the right way. Maybe I'll post some pics after a while for improvement

There's a lot of exercises you could do at home.

However, you're making excuses to not go to the gym. With that attitude, I'd be waisting my time telling you home exercises, because you won't bother to do them anyway.

actually, I'm forgetting about the home workout thing, and I'm going to focus on finding a way to get there, but I'm still looking for the best ways to go about beginning. If you could help out with that, I would greatly appreciate it

I'm in an honors program at a good school and i do jiu jitsu 3-4x a week and party, etc. I still manage to follow Pur's routine pretty exactly.
I go to the gym around 7pm, work out jiu jitsu/mma around 10:30 usually.

Ive found its just as simple as saying: ok i go to class during the day, and instead of using going to class as an excuse to watch dvds and surf the internet during the evening, im going to work out/etc. Its all just a choice really.

yea tc; its worth it to goto the gym. you dont do that much cool shit every day in college unless you are one of those freaks who thinks it matters that you were vice president of the biz frat. (we get it, noone cares anyway b/c we, like everyone else who was normal, thought you were a fag in college.)

Ok, so I just got back from the gym. Just my luck, when I got there, it was for Athletes of the school only. But I knew the guy checking people in, and he let me in. So this is what I got accomplished:
    10 minute walk @ 3mph warm up
    5 minute run @ 5mph
    10 minute walk @ 3mph cool down
    (I know, "ibyoureapussy")
    Then I did:
5 sets of 10 reps of skull crushers at 45lbs
5 sets of 10 reps of curls at 35lbs
5 sets of 10 reps of (I don't know what they're called, they are lifts that work the trapezius) @ 135 lbs

and now I'm home. I know it's not much, but my arms do feel great, and I'm excited to go again tomorrow.

Does anyone have any suggestions for improvement? I'll take all criticism, just don't be an ass about it. I'm just trying to get in better shape.

By the way, Kilian, I'm going to look for some sort of class like that for next semester. I think it would definitely help me out. Thanks for the suggestion

haha Like I said, I've never really done the whole weight lifting thing. I wanted to start at something small so that I stay motivated. I don't want to do too much, then tomorrow I'm really soar, and don't want to work out. Again, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

lol at warming up/cooling down for twice as long as the actual run...each!

oh well, its good that you are trying. Check the stickies for a real weightlifting routine.

do you have friends that workout? just go out with one of them and ask if you can copy their routine (with lighter weights or whatever)...that's good motivation, going to the gym and burning less calories it takes you to get to the gym isn't going to motivate you
