Can anyone tell me their opinion on M&K speakers for a surround sound system?

    Specifically:

    M&K LCR 851 for l & r
M&K centre, Possibly also called an LCR 851, but I'm not sure.

    M&K V-76 Subs(2 of them)

The rears are already built into the house, so I'm not looking for those.

    Any advice appreciated

I don't remember what model number they were, but the M&K speakers I heard sounded good to me.

Are they the only brand you are looking at?

Well, they were recommended by a store I've dealt with in the past. Since they will be going in a cabinet, he recommends that type of speaker(No port in the back).

But if there is a better speaker out for similar money, I'ld like to hear about it.

Well better is subjective when it comes to speakers. For you M&K might be the best. However, I would try and listen to as many different brands as you can before you buy.

But yes, the store was right, you don't want a speaker with a rear firing port if its going into a cabinet (although if the cabinet is much larger than the speaker, it wont matter)

But many companies make front ported speakers. While M&K is a good brand, sadly salesmen very often reccomend the speakers that make the store the most profit :sad2: So keep that in mind as well.
