do you guys think the soundcard and video card on the Macbook are good enough to power a Home theater system? I am hooking up my TV and surround sound directly to the macbook, is there an option for better quality?

A macbook can run full 1080p H.264 movies, so it is more than sufficient to export to a TV. If you export the signal via DVI to the DVI or HDMI input on your TV, you'll get a full digital signal, that will display at whatever resolution your TV supports. I don't know if the macbooks have a digital audio out, but if they do, you can get Dolby Digital and DTS sound from it.
