home PC released the magic smoke yesterday, doesn't work today :(

I'll swap out the power supply and probably get it running again and use it for a media pc in the garage, because now the wife wants a laptop with a big screen.

I keep finding laptops with 16 and 17" widescreens, but they all seems to have some shittilly low resolution.

Suggestions for an inexpensive laptop with a 15+ inch screen that does better than 1280x800?

Nice timing, my girlfriend is looking for a new laptop now and I hate all of the overly wide and crappy resolutions everything is now. So far, the best deal on one with a "normal" resolution I've found is the HP HDX 16t. From their website you get a free upgrade to 4GB RAM, 320 7.2k HDD, and 1920x1080 16" display for ~1,000.

Well first, I have to point out that big screen laptops are an oxymoron. Laptops are for portability and battery life, a big screen and a video card and CPU to power them doesn't do either of those. You'll be stuck to a wall outlet. Now I'd have to suggest a desktop because for 90% of people out there it fits. Not to mention you have no need to worry about battery life and can focus in on performance. Also if you want a big monitor how does 28" monitor for $350 sound? Great right.(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824254043)

Now you can build a desktop with that monitor for under $1000 and it would be amazing, you'd have it and not have to get another computer for a few years. If you build it yourself computers become very reasonable and there is no reason to be intimidated about computer technology.

If you want to be able to sit on your couch and use your computer I can always suggest a dual monitor set up and attach an HDMI cable to your T.V. from your computer and a blue tooth keyboard and mouse. Hmmmm.....wonder where I got this idea....lol because I have it set up like that.

it's a desktop replacement, and it's going to spend over 90% of its time plugged in. the main reason I want (she wants) a laptop is because there's only one desk and I work from it, so she wants to take it to the kitchen or the bed or the couch so she can work.

And I already said I didn't want one. If you don't want to be helpful, don't reply.

    Seriously, just stop replying.

Go you, for having a cable running across your living room floor! :ugh:

    17" screen goes to 1920x1200, vista home premium with free windows7 upgrade, 250gig drive.......originally $499, with options it's $604.

Heading to best buy tonight so my wife can make sure the keyboard is nice (not one of those new funky rubber shit things) and if so I'm buying it tonight.

bought it. $604. and that even includes $40 for the cherry red "upgrade".

I'm not sure what I'm going to do about window7. It comes with a free upgrade, but I'm not sure if I'll do it. I guess I have some reading to do.

Cable can be run in the walls or in the trimming.
