OK, I'm doing this for a friend of the family....they've got 2 computers, one running XP Home, one running ME. I've got a network cable run between them, hooked to the NIC cards, and one computer has the modem connected. All that's really needed is a shared internet connection so they can both be online at the same time...How do I do this? XP doesn't recognize that there's a cable hooked up, so I'm thinking a crossover cable would solve this....any other possibilities?

in order to hookup up the two computers you will need a crossover cable so they can be regonized

i never tried to share a dial up this way though

i know for a fact linksys does make a router that will share a dial up connection so you can always fall back on that if needed

The machine with the modem can share its dialup connection with the NIC. Go to properties of the dialup connection and enable sharing. Of course it'll be slower than dirt with two computers using it but that's dialup.
