Ok, got my linksys lan set up. Its not broad band capable yet as we aren't going to be hooked up to that for at least two more weeks. So, my question is. What else can I do with this set up?

Can I send files between computers? Can I view a vitual desktop of the computers on the other end of the wireless? My desktop is the only computer hardwired.

Anyway, give me some "real" ideas and how to do them please.

Main thing I'm wanting to be able to do is send files between computers. Are there specific programs needed for this or is there something "buried" within what I already have that I can use.

Also, do I have unrestricted access to the satelites?

More importantly, do they have unrestricted access to my computer?

Ok... My desktop (admin for the router).

Windows 2000. Harwired into a linksys wireless router (g) with four-point switch.

Sony Laptop with wireless card plugged in. Windows XP.

Gateway Laptop with USB netgear adapter (b) installed.

Anything else you need to know?

first of all. you need to spend some time reading the manual on the router. pay particular attention to the Wireless section. In it, you should find several sections about how to maximize your security. I suggest that you do this. That way nosey neighbors won't get in your way....

finally.... sharing really is a simple thing using windows.... assuming you have things set up properly, you can probably just right click on a folder and scroll down to teh "sharing" selection. from there it is pretty self-evident what to do.

then to see what has been shared from another computer, you need to simply click on "network neighborhood" and then "entire network" and then probably a category called "workgroup" and then all the computers taht are in that group should be listed..

try that and let us know how it goes

    btw.

www.techimo.com is a FAR better place to get help with computer related issues. their forums are fantastic and the database is gigantic and searchable!

    good luck
