Police Imposters Invade Hermitage Home Home Invaders Escape With Woman's Purse Reported By Jonathan Martin http://www.wsmv.com/news/15072152/detail.html POSTED: 7:52 am CST January 17, 2008 UPDATED: 12:35 pm CST January 17, 2008 The incident happened around 1 a.m. Thursday at the White Oak apartment complex off Old Hickory Boulevard. Resident Barry West said he was home with his son and two women when around midnight two men claimed to be Metro police and knocked on the door to his Hermitage apartment. They weren't wearing a police uniform, but instead had on masks. The men kicked in the door and held the family at gunpoint. "I said, 'Let me see a badge,' and he said, 'Here's your badge,' and kept pointing a gun at my face," said West. Police said this appears to be a random home invasion. The robbers took a purse and cell phone but no one was hurt, and he thanks his dog for helping scare off the invaders. He said when the men broke in, his dog barked loudly and believes that scared the men away. "To me, my dog is better than a burglar alarm or body guard," said West. Authorities said crooks who pose as cops is a common way criminals try to get into people's homes. "If you realize they are not police officers, as soon as it's feasibly safe, they need to contact the police department so we can investigate that," said Capt. Randy Hickerson of the Metro Police Department. Police hope that surveillance video to the gated community will help catch the robbers. --- I would of known immediately they were fake cops when they hadn't shot the dog.
