Sitting in my bedroom talking to johnson on aim 0130 am. I hear a voice outside my window. Mind you I live in a cul de sac and there is never anyone on the street. The voice peaks my senses and I look closer I see a figure in the driveway. I go into the parents bedroom and make sure the light is on in the driveway. I wake my father and grab my glock and a flashlight and make my way out. The person was startled by me at the window and tookoff on foot. After clearing the driveway while my father called 911 I noticed a vehicle with its high beams on at the top of the street way out of place. The vehicle drives by occupied 4x young males. Perhaps they were after anything in an unlocked vehicle. I hopefully will never find out again.

I would have loved to have held him for the cops. I won't lie.

:dunno: what your laws are, but you might have been arrested for branishing if you did.

What they did at the time, wasnt illegal. It's ok to stand outside in the dark... in the middle of the night. :o

If I hear someone outside my house in the middle of the night, I am going to grab a gun. They could be getting ready to break in the house, the cars, etc. I don't think anyone is going to jail if you chase some kids off YOUR property in the middle of the night with a gun.

If you put a fence up does your domicile extend to your yard? (the fenced in area. I thought it did)

Exactly. You come on to my property at night I'm telling you to leave. I made my presence known before heading outside. IMO thats good enough.

I'd never pop someone for b+e on a car but god this state needs a castle doctrine.

Castle doctrine only applies when you are in your home or car. IE If they are b+e to your car while you are in your home and your car is on the street, castle law does not apply. IE If you are driving home and roll up to your house to see people inside your front window, castle law does not apply. You can't run INTO your house with your rifle/pistol and defend it.

We do somewhat.....its pretty weak compared to other states but CT Gen. Stat. 53a-19b says you have no duty to retreat and may use deadly force while in your home or business.

But, you know how this state is....if it became big news you'd be charged anyways and they'd try to change the law after the fact like with that guy open carrying in glastonbury.
