So yesterday we had our final photo critique. We all put together our own portfolio's so we have something to start with and add on to. This one kid decided he was going to print out some of his photos on 8.5"x11" paper. So when we all looked at the pictures, they were all gray and dark. We weren't sure why, so we asked. He said he didn't know. He loaded his printer with photo paper and it came out that way... he was using Ilford Photographic paper for the dark room. So he pulled it out in the light, put it in his printer, then printed his pictures on to it. :ugh:

    highlight of my day.

To be honest with you, I don't think he actually did. He's extremely careless. When we are doing critiques, we hang up our photos to show everyone, and most people are careful with not destroying their work, but he takes thumb tacks and sticks them through his pictures and folds them up.

Yeah it actually did. I printed on it and it came out great, and I was like man this paper is super thick! I've never felt anything like it before. Then I went to get the next piece and was like...wait a minute:squint:

It didn't help that the paper was matte, so you couldn't really tell the difference based on just looking at the paper.

My teacher had to explain to him that they are gray now, but as time goes by, the silver halide will continue to darken the photos. Some people thought maybe if you let it sit in a fix then stop bath that it might help, but we weren't sure if that would damage the ink from the printer.

Photographic paper for film photography is extremely light sensitive. Once light hits the paper, the paper is fogged and turns dark. Like a roll of film, if you expose it to light, it fogs the film and you lose your photos. So he took it out in the light and put it through a printer thinking it was similar to photo paper people buy for their digital cameras when they print. As time goes by, the pages will get darker and darker and you won't be able to see anything he printed on it.
