    Start watching at around 4:10'ish.

    :eek3: I mean, Aoki didn't get the armbar but he was fucking close to getting it and I could see that being a very nice setup with a high chance of working. I'm so going to try this next time I roll.

    dude was only a purple belt at the time. someday he'll realize his full potential and will no longer be merely my protege

    its a pretty basic armbar. ;) you just use the skirt from the gi to keep their arm a bit more crossed.

    you just pull the back part of their gi from out of their belt, and cross it over the back of their tricep. You hold the skirt like a joystick, and it helps to keep their arm crossed.. then you can use the other free hand to help push the elbow even more across. Then you just have to put your body at an angle for a proper armbar (the most important part)

    watch the video.. and youll see aoki doing all this

    Aoki = great

    I want to see either Gomi vs. Aoki, or Aoki vs. Gilbert

    Grabbed the back of his gi and pulled it over his head, over his opponent's left shoulder.

    Then kept re-adjusting his grip to get a tighter leverage and so his opponent wouldn't be able to straighten his back.

    Then he finally left the right hand on the gi that was over the head and the left hand behind his opponent's left tricep and went into an armbar.

    The opponent eventually escaped though but it was tight.
