Although, those are all pretty good points. Why invite trouble into the house, whether you're prepared to defend it or not.

I've always been careful about putting boxes of expensive items out in the trash, usually waiting till the morning of pickup. Why broadcast to the world what I have in my house.

As to the carolers, I just ignore them and dont answer my door anyway, so problem solved. :big grin:

But the police and their security cameras will save them, right?

I have a friend that lives in a big apartment complex with an alley next to it. This alley is behind a bunch of houses (student houses) and separates the houses from the apartment complex. It's one alley that's around 100yds long which leads to a day gate, but it's closed at night, and then another alley that's around 50yds long that leads to the 24hrs gate.

There is no lighting or CCTV on that alley. When they tried to petition the city for it, the students in the houses complained it would keep them awake. THAT shit was ridiculous. When I walked down it I had NEVER felt like I needed my sidearm more. Instead I had a case of stella, so I could have at least hit someone if they came from in front, but behind was a different story.

And the nanny state strikes again

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20071213/od_nm/swords_dc

Dear lord, seriously will they ever stop and think?

I mean they are banning the cheap ones, but not the real deal. They banned guns and still have a problem, but now instead of shooting up a church they slash up a church.

My head is about to explode from attempting to understand the logic here.

Just don't try, do NOT try. The headache will not go away for days. I tried it when I got here, the only thing that made it go away was a lot of drinking.

what humors me is they panic about all these things, but when I was there they're be police responses to suspicious packages and bomb scares left and right. God help you, if you need to throw something anyway, zero friggin garbage cans even in a food court.

My personal favorite was when riding the tube, a little announcement, "we will not be stopping at Piccadilly station as there is a suspected bomb at the station." in that same pre-recorded voice.

Still having a bobby ask "excuse me, have you seen a naked man around here?" was a close second.

I've got a nice story about the police spending more time talking to me and asking questions about me than they were asking about a random duffel bag I saw full of newspapers on a train in the tube.

That's the last time I call their emergency number for the tube.
