Honestly this is a series that builds on itself very well, I read the first few and loved the concept, but it wasn't until after about issue 10 that I was 100% hooked. One of the best finds that I never would have found if it weren't for the OT Comic Crew.

The series deals with various characters from fairy tales and folklore who have been forced out of their native lands by a mysterious enemy known as the Adversary. They travel to our world and form a clandestine community in New York City known as Fabletown. (However, characters from fables with non-human appearance must live at the "Farm" in upstate New York.)

Bill Willingham who writes the comic, reinterpreted many of the characters, evident in the divorce of Snow White and Prince Charming due to infidelity on the part of the latter. The former was deputy mayor of Fabletown as the series begins. Another principal character is the Big Bad Wolf, who has not only reformed, but gained the ability to take on human appearance and serves as Fabletown's sheriff at the series beginning.

Main characters include Snow White, Rose Red (Snow White's sister), Bibgy Wolf (Big Bad Wolf from Little Red Riding Hood), Prince Charming, Pinocchio, Jack (from Jack and the Beanstalk), and Beauty and the Beast.

They drop hints throughout the comic as to who the "Adversary" is and he is finally revealed in issue 40. There are story arcs taking place over several issues at a time. The introductory story arc is a murder mystery. Other story arcs include a conspiracy thriller, a caper story, and most recently, the introduction of Arabian fables.

I remember I bought the first issue when it first came out but I couldn't keep buying it due to money constraints. I read the rest, and it's so well written that I'll start buying it again.

Bill Willingham is also going to start writing/drawing a new comic from DC called "ShadowPact." It's about a new team of lesser known characters in the DC universe who use magic. It should be interesting.

Downloading Fables #47 now, Fables #48 comes out April 12 (next week)

http://mean-seasons.org/fables/ has a pretty extensive list of characters including appearances of major and minor characters and where they were taken from.

Also has a lengthy essay on the clues that reveal the Adversary. Don't read it if you don't want spoilers.

    yeah.

I've read all the fables now.
& whe you look back the hints were everywhere.

To top it all I love the character development. Little red riding hood, Goldie Locks, B.B. Wolf, Snow white.

I'm also reading a lot of stuff by the Brothers Grimm. (German writers, not the Thing's Kids :big grin: )
    Little mermaid happily ever after.
Man we've sure "disney'd" our generation up.
