    doesn't it depend on heart rate and pace:time ratio. and not so much distance

    100 calories a mile is about right, depends on weight and stuff though. You really don't burn a lot of calories recovering after cardio like you do from weightlifting, but you do burn some...

    According to him pace only makes a marginal difference. I've heard that from other people also.

    The only significance your pace makes is your EPOC, which is pretty insignificant to begin with. If you walk a mile in 30 minutes as opposed to running it in 15 minutes, your heart rate won't be as fast, but it will be sustained longer. It makes sense to me. :dunno:

    shit so it's really that clear cut? you eat 100 worth of calories, like 10 dorrito chips, then you have to run for a mile to work it off?

    this is consistant with the information ive gathered.

    also, after 30 min of moderate cardio, you will continue to burn calories at a higher rate for the next 2-4 hours. how much of an increase i dunno. muscle is what really increases your resting metabolic rate over long term (but thats not department)

    according to fitday

    9mph = 19cals/min 6mins/mile
    8mph = 16cals/min 7.5mins/mile
    7mph = 13cals/min 8.5mins/mile
    5mph = 9cals/min. 12 mins/mile

    4mph = 4cals/min. 15mins/mile walking

    running at 8mph is the most efficient but they all range from 108-120.

    yeah ive read this too.they say if you run at a pace of about 10 min miles or so that you burn aprox 500 per hour. of course if you run 5 min miles you can burn 500 in half an hour. which leaves you with 30 min more time for the weights after the run. at least thats what i do. i almost always run 1 to 2 miles before lifting. some days as many as 5 miles. at first i was really tired combining the 2...but after amonth or so it feels just fine to bust out 4 or 5 miles and then lift for 30 to 45 min. :dunno: plus if you do any sprints in your run you can kick your body into high gear and burn more calories after your done. kinda like how when you lift really hard you still are burning calories at a higher rate even after you are done.

    What you don't realize is that the average person burns 4,000+ calories a day just by doing every day shit at work, home, etc. (eg walking to your car, climbing stairs, shopping, having sex, masturbating, even typing.)

    please define your "average person" for this model.

    in my world, the "avarage person" burns 1800 cals/day. my average is based on mostly female 20 yo dancers weighing from 115-130 lbs. i think many would agree niether model represents what is truly the mean.
